about

This album was commissioned by Mark Vines, who named it (and all the tracks) and provided guidance on some compositional aspects. It exclusively uses a temperament known as Orgone, and specifically a 7-note scale of Orgone temperament as tuned in four different equal divisions of the octave (11edo, 15edo, 26edo, and 477edo). Orgone is a temperament based on approximations to the 2nd, 7th, and 11th harmonics exclusively, although various tunings of it suggest the presence of other harmonics "incidentally". The tracks are quite varied stylistically, ranging from ambient, to surf rock, to jazz, to gamelan...it's all over the map!

If you want to know more about the temperament, the tunings of it, and how I worked with it, there are copious notes included with the album download.

about

City of the Asleep Portland, Oregon

Instrumental music, often blending glitch and EDM with surf, progressive rock, classical, and avant-garde experimentalism. Heavy doses of surrealism/absurdism. Sound-paintings, non-ambient dreamscapes. Frequently microtonal/xenharmonic!
